All about Lady Scrib

Hi, I’m Kassie Scribner, also known as “Lady Scrib”!

Lady Scrib Design & Embroidery was started in 2015, after picking up stitching for the first time since 5th grade (my grandma taught me and I am so grateful!). Ever since I finished that first hoop, I have been hooked and love being able to mix lettering, and illustration to create unique goods for your home or wardrobe.

I make each hoop from “sketch to stitch” in my cosy studio situated in the basement of a 1906 bungalow in Salt Lake City, Utah.

HOW DID LADY SCRIB START?

In early 2015, right around this time of the month actually, I was in a creative rut. I was very happy in my day job, but when I came home, I felt like my personal design was lacking. I was a letting artist in a pool of insanely talented people. I had crazy imposter syndrome and it made me second guess everything I created. I wasn’t happy, and I wanted to find my spark again. I remembered something Jessica Hische said at a speaking engagement I went to early in my career. She told everyone to “find their niche" and that if they did, they would find success. Remembering that, I decided I needed to dig deep and find something that made me unique, and that would bring me joy.

I thought that the 100 Days Project would be the perfect way to help me get started and dive right in. I started writing down lists of things I loved, wanted to get better at, or just thought were cool and wanted to learn. On that list, I had embroidery. My Yiayia (grandma in Greek) had taught me years before when I was 10 or so, and she passed away when I was in high school. She was one of the sweetest women I have ever known, and I still miss her daily. When I started thinking it through, I realized it was a clear choice of what I should do for my project. I needed to pick up embroidery again to not only find my creative spark, but do something that would bring me closer to my Grandmother once again.

From that moment on, the rest was history. I found some fabric and really awful thread, and stitched my first hoop. It was an "S" for my newly inherited last name, and it...was pretty hideous. I wish I still had it! But after that hoop, I followed the 100 days project with 100 Days of Stitches. I haven't stopped stitching since, and don't think I'll ever stop.

  • I grew up traveling, thanks to my Mom working for Delta, and that bug hasn’t gone away! My favorite countries I've traveled to are: Japan, Thailand, Singapore and France. When I was in junior high, we went to Kenya and it was absolutely amazing and such an eye opening experience.

There's a whole lot more about me, my embroidery, likes and dislikes, but I'll stop here for now! I am looking forward to sharing more about embroidery, tips and tricks, my life, and other favorite things on a very unscheduled basis :)
